We have been investigating API usage and have discovered there are some schools still using v1 of the API. Meanwhile, we have made many improvements to the v3 API, including the following:
- Custom fields are included in V3 responses, but are not in V1
- Requests can be built to select fields to include in responses, i.e. field mask
- Additional performance improvements
Since the usage of V3 has the above benefits, we planning to deprecate V1 public API for OpenApply.
The first step in deprecating the V1 public API endpoints will be to change the rate limits, where there will be more stringent rate limit in V1 than on V3. Specifically, we will be adding daily quotas.
The rate limit will not change for V3. For this reason, we strongly recommend the use of V3 for all new projects. For projects that still use V1, if you need more specific guidance, please consider reaching out to our Integrations Director Adam Morris:
